Largest Standalone Detailed Minecraft Dirt Hut in the World

A civilization thrives, within a high rising Minecraft Dirt Mansion, lit-up with purple sparkles of spectral lights over a flowing ocean. Waves tapping against the supports of the gingerbread-like manor. Half-Earth, half-structure. All fantastic for its hotel window views.

Full of kobolds, snaga and goblins, this German mole cake is only slightly less delectable than it looks.

Life gave me lemons, and I gave it a home.

No ugly bridges in the Nether here!

Dirt is Marvelous

The dirt block is easily one of the most underrated, versatile Minecraft building blocks available.

Everything is a part of your palette – embrace it.

I was faced with a contest to create the best Minecraft Dirt Hut imaginable in just two weeks. And what’s worse? I was busy for over half of it! I had a handful of days to push through unveiling the limits on just how far dirt could go.

Like all blocks, you want contrast. Always. A palette of a couple colours helps add to it, highlighting where it shines. I decided to stick to an all-natural approach. Only using unprocessed blocks for my structure – even if the water and glass were a tad different. The lighting demanded it! All builds need a spectacle!

Speckles of green patches with cobblestone framing helped the dirt truly come to life. Ensuring at any given moment over 80% of the build remained in its truly mucky muddy fashion.

Before I knew it, I’d misunderstood the contest, facing an insanely massive Minecraft Dirt Mansion.

This is a Minecraft Dirt Mansion. How is this a hut?

Oh, I wondered the same.

I really did. A huge part of me worried I was on track for disqualification for completing blowing any scale expectations out of proportion.

Still, I persevered. I had a goal in mind and a little uncertainty was not about to trip me up: I was making this, and I was making it big. The biggest, in fact. I looked far and wide into the grand museums and castles of dirt built along the years in our sweet soily history, appreciating the creative marvels I was up against. Figuring out just how big I had to go.

And I went for it.

Simple, direct, sweet. No deeper thoughts. I knew the plan, I did the plan. I committed to the bit. Within four days of focused efforts, investing hours of free time without pause into this sprawl of hobbit homes, I broke the record for the largest detailed Minecraft Dirt Hut.

Who said rough survival houses couldn’t be pretty?

…well, I didn’t disprove that. I am never making this in survival!

Talk of the Town?

And I won!

It was awesome. Knowing I’d come far enough I could take up the once ridiculous challenge of building with dirt and making it pretty.

As if winning the official contest with it wasn’t already enough of a major achievement I’m proud of, the official Minecraft.net blog writers reached out to me for an interview on the build. This was later followed by another interview in a later contest, and I even showed up in two other articles the following year! Awesome, right?

This led me to discover my builds have appeared in articles across the internet, spanning through several different languages.

If ever anyone’s hoping to do this, please don’t be afraid to reach out to me!

Can I download it?

Alas! The one pity of this grand design comes with what sits behind it: Nothing.

Don’t be mistaken though – this will not be my final dirt hut.

Far from it.
