Selavaris - A Gear Grinding Isle
It was inevitable I would create a magical Minecraft Steampunk city. I’ve always loved magic. The fantasy powers guiding our little fictional worlds to their glorious finales. Technology too. Steampunk especially. It’s more surprising it didn’t happen sooner, and still odd it hasn’t happened again!
Steampunk is AWESOME
Together with Cyberpunk, Steampunk is easily one of my favourite themes. Responsible for quite a bit of my adoration for complexity in design, inspiring many of my earlier art pieces and creations.
A younger me made airships, little fancy eccentric clocktowers and birds made entirely of metal parts and wood. There was even a massive mechanical ogre, surrounded by gears, in construction! Unfortunately that never reached its finale, but it laid the groundworks for this city.
Piece by Piece, the Minecraft Steampunk City Formed
This build is an amalgamation of parts. Using my older style of construction where I shaved hours off the clock and still built a complex, enormous spectacle as a result of it. Focusing heavily on presentation and lighting to create a scene uniquely appreciable at a glance.
Even the railway is made up of tiny parts, pieced together! Oh, that was tedious – but it was so worth it.

You would never guess it at a glance, but the terrain was made the same way. I have a somewhat unique approach to terrain, creating ‘brushes’ by manually building designs I think might work wonders on a grand scale. Spending hours on it to ensure I can get the overhangs I desire easily. Tidying it all up afterwards.
What about the more complex pieces?
The houses, hot air balloons, floating gears and airships were all designed with this in mind. Considering scales that could go together in a larger scene while ensuring each individual one could hold its own as a high quality appealing build.

I have a style I adore for structures. Creating houses that feel ‘alive’ in shape. You’ll never see the same shaped houses again, and I’m sure you never have before.

This was my first ever full-scale attempt at steampunk, and I wanted to ensure I carried through the skills I already trained with it. Creating faces in the sides of buildings to spook the odd passerby and letting the magic flow to the sky above.
Everything here is fully powered by magic!
Really. All of it.
The steam rising from the houses, plumes keeping the balloons afloat, engine fuel powering the airships-
Where would we be without magic?
It’s a floating island!

Who lives here?
I pictured a civilization of traders and travellers adoring this city. An expert leader in commerce and research compared to its neighbours. Naming it ‘Selavaris’ and advancing in researching technology in an older, behind world.
Imagine, a standalone city with grand technological marvels rising up to the sky, ships floating overhead, in a world with castles and sprawling wooden houses.
Tackling dragons with magical cannons of purple energy, riding their mechanical trains past the latest Dirt Hurt, and sallying forth into Dungeons with massive backpacks of gears and gadgets ready for every threat the world can offer.
Neutral, in diplomacy, preferring to keep to themselves as much as possible and be the arbiter of justice. Forgiver of the masses. Protector of civilised peoples.
Can I download it?
The massive city itself is not available, but the pieces for this and my later Steampunk project are!
A mix of houses, airships, hot air balloons, railway pieces and even 3D models leads to quite the assortment of creative opportunities.
